Tung Nguyen

Born in Hanoi, Vietnam, Tung Nguyen began his piano study at 6 years old in the Vietnam National Academy of Music. At 18, he received a full scholarship to study his Bachelor degree in Piano at the prestigious Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary with Prof. Gábor Farkas and Prof. Dávíd Báll. After graduating with highest honors, he was again awarded the full scholarship to continue studying for his Master degree in the same institution under Prof. Dávíd Báll and Prof. László Borbély. He is currently pursuing his Doctoral degree in Piano Performance at the University of Oregon and a concurrent Master in Collaborative Piano with a full scholarship, under the guidance of Dr. Alexandre Dossin and Dr. David Riley. 

Mr. Nguyen is a holder of numerous prizes in national and international piano competitions. Notable prizes include 1stprize in the Barletta International Competition, 3rd prize in the MusicAlive International Online Piano Competition, Winner of the MTNA Competition representing Oregon and Alternate Winner of the MTNA Competition of the Northwest Division.

As a chamber musician, Tung Nguyen is the pianist in Trio JET. Established in 2017, the trio has performed in numerous concerts in Hungary and Switzerland. In 2018, the trio was invited to perform in the annual festival “Virágzás Napjai” alongside great musicians from Hungary. The trio was also invited to play in the Hungarian Embassy in Switzerland to commemorate the Hungarian National Holiday, in the presence of different Ambassadors and friends of the Embassy.

Tung Nguyen is currently an instructor of piano and accompanist at the University of Oregon.
